wendy heim:brianna has a rare metabolic disorder called glutaric acidemia type i, and it has affectedher fine and gross motor skills as well as her speech. brianna loves to swim. she lovesto ride horses. she loves going to hockey games. she loves to cheer; she's a cheerleaderas well as emily. scott heim:she's also just wrapped up her fifth or sixth season skiing. wendy heim:it's been really nice to have emily to help her with, you know, just different daily taskswhere she struggles a little bit because of her motor skills. she can help her with takingher shoes and socks off and, you know, helping

her with dressing. she can help her take herjacket off. she's kind of also opened up the door, literally, to helping her with, youknow, making friends and working on her speech. she's shown a lot more confidence since she'shad emily. she's become more confident with speaking. she likes to read to her as well,so now she has a buddy to read out loud to. i think she's gotten a lot more confidencefrom having emily by her side and not judging her. brianna heim:i like to play games with emily and crochet with her. scott heim:emily understands bri, and bri understands

emily. bri gets emily to do certain tasksfor her without wendy and i having to be right there by her side. even though bri's speechis not 100% clear, emily still gets it. the independence is there. she's a great dog withor without the vest on. wendy heim:i can't even describe how amazing it was that first moment that they met, but emily justkind of leaned up in her face just so gently and sweet. and that was just pretty amazingand magical. scott heim:with bri and her struggles, it has been peaks and valleys. every day, every week, everymonth, there's just things that she does that, every day we're proud of her.
