more than 45,000 children in allegheny county are considered to be food insecure. nearly a dozen dogs are getting a second chance. they were rescued from overcrowded shelters in the southeast part of the country and now they are here in
pittsburgh. there has more on their journey to find new homes. reporter: a warm welcome for eight dogs and two puppies. the animals were delivered right to the doors of the western pa humane society on the north side.
they were all rescued through a project run by the american society for the prevention of cruelty to animals or the aspca . the program is called the nancy silverman rescue ride. what they do is move dogs from the southeast where euthanasia rates are very high
to locations in the northeast, where it is not so high. so, we were able to help out and take these guys. reporter: every day, the humane society takes in strays and pets abandoned by their owners. by joining forces with other organizations like the
aspca is especially important. this is the first time we've done it with the aspca. we are hoping it's a nice partnership we can build and we can help them out again. that's what we do. reporter: these docs will be evaluated in terms of health
and behavior.
