Overgrown Dog Nails

i prefer to trim feet and hocks with the doglying down. i just is easier for me to see all the different areas i need without twistinghis... trying to twist his leg off his body. as you can see he definitely needs some trimming.and what i like to do is oops, use a straight pair of shears and just trim all that coatbetween the pads, even with the pads. and be careful not to cut the pad. you canif you have very sharp scissors so just be

Overgrown Dog Nails, careful. because the pad cells grow vertically, not horizontally like our skin does, so it makes it tougher for the pads to heal. the other thing that i've just started recentlydoing is using this little battery operated trimmer just to neaten things up just a littlemore. i used to just use the scissors for

eons, but i guess i just got lazy. now this discoloration here, some vets callthat a lick granuloma. it's some sort of a yeast, which is a fungus which you can clearup just by using a little foot powder. antifungal powder foot powder. which we'll add later. this is a slicker. and gonna trim all that hair that's stickingup. i like to use a curved scissors for this part because it gives a nice curve to thefoot. gonna trim it even with the rest of the coat. and you're gonna take your fingers, your thumb, push against the pad....

those little dudes. then brush the hair down between the toesand see what we got. oh, you're being such a good boy. yes youare. not bad! ok, next we're gonna do the hocks.again the slicker. gonna brush to one side, brush up, just gonnabrush it all over the place just to get it really unmatted. brush to one side, oh, let me have your footback. and we're gonna cut straight. and you cancut as short or as long as you want. i like

to make so that when you bursh it out it lookspretty fluffy. brush it down the other way. and trim. brush it straight back. trim. just make sure it's straight. and then i liketo take this little corner off here 'cause then it makes the hock appear just a littlebit shorter. we like short hocks on shelties. and we take this little dude... oops, wrongone. see how it looks nice and fluffy?

very good... voila! we have a foot and a hock that is done!how very, very pretty. ok, well maybe not done. i can always find something to trim.there we go. oh, you were great! yes, you were! look atthat pretty face. bark! bark! oh, you guys want to be next, huh?! all right.
