how to build a wooden garden gate. make asturdy garden gate. ok so here we are going to show you today how i made a small gatefor my dog so that i can get in to feed and water him from the back. so first what i didhere is i put a really strong piece of wood and attached that to the fence. then i puton my hinges. i attached the hinges to a pretty sturdy little small board that will be kindof the strength of the fence. you don't want
Retractable Dog Gate, to put the hinges in to something that isnot sturdy. then i wanted to put one wheel on it. the gate is not going to be that heavy.the wheel basically serves as some support when the gate is closed for when the dog putshis weight on the gate. here i am leveling the bottom of the gate and then i'm goingto level the top as well. it was important
to level because my concrete here is reallysloped but i wanted the gate to be nice and level so it opens and closes properly. i amcutting my boards to size. here is sparky wondering how long this is going to take.here i am, i am just using a little scrap of concrete to hold the bottom of the fenceabout the height i wanted. i wanted a little bit off the ground. so i'm building a temporarysupport. then i am going to level it and attach it. this is going to be the bottom of thegate. so i'm kind of building the gate in place. part of the reason is it is a littlefaster in this case. because the hole that i am filling with this gate is kind of anodd size and it is not square. so i needed to...it would be hard to measure it and buildthe gate. normally you would build a gate
and then hang it up. but i'm kind of buildingit in place just to make sure everything fits this odd size space. so i'm leveling the toppart. this is the top support. and then i'm attaching the bottom support bracket. whati'm making the gate out of , these are actually bed slats from an old bed. they are curvedand i think they look nice. they are usually made of really good quality wood. so theseare a great item to pick up at garage sales and from old beds. so i'm going to go aheadand fasten those in and i didn't have quite enough slats. so i wanted to give it a littlebit more strength so i put in a slightly thicker board in a few places. this is the closinghardware that i got to lock it so the dog won't get out. here is sparky again saying,"oh my goodness, how long is this taking?
i want to get back in my play pen." "so anyway, you are going to have to wait a little bit longer sparky, i'm going as fast as i can."then he turns his back on me. oh my goodness. this dog is just thankless. anyway back tothe gate. i went ahead and screwed that in. instead of using the little metal bracketthat came with it, i decided to drill a hole in the wall here and just have the bolt goright in to the wall. i figured that would keep the gate a little stronger and wouldlook nice. so here you have the finished gate. hope you like it. thanks for watching. matthew7:13 "enter through the narrow gate. for wide is the gate and broad is the road that leadsto destruction, and many enter through it."
